Ice Navigation
Objective: The goal of the Ice Navigation training is to introduce participants to the safety aspects of navigation near ice and in waters covered with ice. Moreover, discovering physical features and types of ice, its behaviour under the influence of wind and currents, learning vital ship handling techniques as well as ice breaker operations are listed among the important course objectives either.
Subject Areas:
This course meets the requirements STCW Convention and Code, section A-V/4, paragraph 1. And
Follow the IMO module 7.11

- Types of Ice. Basic Ice physics.
- Preparation of a vessel for ice navigation.
- Effects of Ice accretion on vessel's stability.
- Planning a passage in Ice covered waters.
- Ice classifications of ships.
- Principle of ice breaker operation & Navigation with Ice breaker assistance.
- Mooring operations in ice covered waters.
- Crew safety & PPE
