IGF Course
Objective: To acquire knowledge concerning regulatory and inspection regime for ships using low-flashpoint fuels under the provision of IGF Code, following its basic philosophy that considers the goal-based approach. The course will focus on the goals and relevant functional requirements specific for each section that will steer the ship’s design, construction and operation solutions, in particular the ones meeting the functional requirements for natural gas fuel.
Subject Areas:
The IGF Code is the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low-Flashpoint Fuels, as defined in SOLAS regulation II-1/2.29.The course will meet the training requirements as required STCW Code Section A-V/3 and Tables A-V/3-1 and A-V/3-2, as amended 2010.

- Specific requirements for ships using natural gas as fuel
- Ship design and arrangement
- Fuel containment system
- Material and general pipe design
- Bunkering Fuel supply to consumers
- Power generation including propulsion & other
- Fire safety - Explosion prevention
- Ventilation
- Electrical installations
- Control, monitoring and safety systems
- Contribute to the safe operation of a ship subject to the IGF Code Take precautions to prevent hazards on a ship subject to the IGF Code Apply occupational health and safety precautions and procedures and measures Ensure procedures and safe working practices are observed at all times, and the appropriate safety and protective equipment is correctly used.
- Carry out firefighting operations on a ship subject to the IGF Code Ensure initial action, follow-up, clothing, equipment, timing and sequence are applied appropriately to extinguish any fires.
- Respond to emergencies Ensure environmental safeguard procedures are observed at all times
